“Essence” is the result of two musicians who happen to be married to each other and thought it would be fun to perform together.  Suzanne & Ed Vick – the members of Essence – have put together a catalog of music that includes artists such as Sting, The Beatles, Carole King, James Taylor, and Natalie Merchant (just to name a few).  Essence is an acoustic band, with only vocals and guitar filling what would be otherwise empty space.  A short history of Suzanne and Ed’s musical backgrounds follows.

Suzanne Vick has been singing since childhood, when she would perform folk music with her dad at family parties.  She studied classical voice while in high school and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston upon graduation.  Suzanne has won numerous awards for her vocal talent, and has recorded with various artists throughout Connecticut and in Boston.  In the mid-nineties, Suzanne sang with the southern rock band “Creepin’ Charlie,” whose original music sounded like a cross between Credence Clearwater Revival and the Rolling Stones.

Originally from Providence, Rhode Island, Ed Vick was a member of the band Emissary, an all-original metal band that performed throughout Providence and Boston, and opened shows for Dokken and Dream Theater.  Ed also worked as a studio guitarist for many local artists and studios in Rhode Island.  Now residing in Connecticut, Ed is a full-time guitar instructor who has performed and recorded with many New Haven artists such as “Mixx,” Rose Coppola, Paul Opalach and Bill Lopez.  Ed's debut CD “Set In Motion” premiered in 2000, and he just released his second CD, "Uninstall."  Please visit www.EdVick.com for more info about Ed!
